Some Tools You Will Need To Repair A Faucet
• Wrenches adjusting and box wrenches of different sizes. • A pipe wrench. • Standard and phillips screw drivers. • Plumber’s grease and sealant to seal and lube. • Faucet repair part washers, O-rings and cartridges for your specific model faucet.
How to Fix a Leaking Faucet
First shut off the water at the valves under the sink.
Open the faucet valve to drain water from the faucet. Remove the handles held on by screws or a hex nut. Remove the cartridge or valve stem using the adjustable wrench or by unscrewing the cap that holds the cartridge in place.
Washer and O-Ring Replacement
Check all washers and O’-rings for any damage or wear. If needed replace them. They should fit snugly. Using plumbers grease lube all rubber parts so they seal correctly. Then reinstall the stem or cartridge in the faucet and test.
Low Water Pressure Solution
Remove the aerator from the tip of your faucet by twisting counter clockwise. screw the aerator from the faucet tip. Clean it out of debris by tapping on the sink a n running under the tap. If still slow soak the aerator in vinegar to remove minerals. If this doesn’t work replace it.
Flushing the Supply Lines
Debris can enter the public water system especially if you use well water. To flush turn off the water. Disconnect the waterlines from the faucet and flush the lines into a bucket.
Reattach the lines to the faucet and test. Next inspect the two water valves. Make sure they completely open and close properly and don’ make weird noises if bad replace them.
Faucet Makes Noise
Loose washers and damaged O-rings can make noises. Loose fittings and bad water valves can also make noise. Replace or repair these fittings.
